Sustainable Built Environments
Process of delivering Sustainable Buildings and CM education
Abstract
Moreland City Council’s Civic Centres redevelopment was a successful project delivered on time, to a strict budget and to a high quality standard. Challenging the successful delivery in terms of time, cost and quality were several complex client sustainability performance requirements including ‘green building’, ‘integrating public art’, ‘accessibility for all people’, and ‘security without barriers’.
Project management, especially the selection of construction management as a delivery method, provided the ability to communicate one-on-one with trade and sub-contractors improving communication levels and working together to provide a highly successful outcome. The success of these approaches reinforces the need for environmental education for construction management students to be process, rather than outcome focussed.
