Sustainable Materials
Dept. of Environment & Heritage Scoping Study on Materials in the Building Code
This scoping study intends to investigate measures for improving the environmental sustainability of building materials.
Thorough research which includes stakeholder consultation workshops in all capital cities, will contribute to the understanding of the life cycle impacts of different building materials; analyse the scope to minimise the environmental impacts of building materials and identify the range of potential regulatory and voluntary measures for improving the environmental sustainability of building materials.
The Centre for Design worked with partners to ensure that the scoping study provides crucial insight into the future needs of the Australian economy in the appropriate and optimal management of building product and system sustainability.
This scoping study was commissioned by the Department of the Environment and Water Resources (formerly DEH) in 2005.
